Odd Ohtani Opt Out

Shohei Ohtani can opt out of his Dodgers contract if owner Mark Walter or president Andrew Friedman leave the team:

The email outlining Ohtani’s contract that was distributed to agents by the Major League Baseball Players Association on Wednesday and reviewed by ESPN stated: “If specific change in Dodger personnel, Player may opt out of contract at end of season the change occurs.” Two sources familiar with the contract confirmed an initial report by The Associated Press that the “specific change” is in reference to Walter and Friedman.

There is no explanation of why Ohtani wanted that opt-out, but I have to believe he feels those individuals give the Dodgers a better chance to win the World Series. The WS ring seems to be the motivating factor in the whole deal.
