Best Batter Today

Yordan Alvarez of the Astros drops to second place in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. The Rangers pitchers kept him off base as he went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts in the 2-0 Texas win. That puts the idle Juan Soto in first place. Vacationing Aaron Judge sits third, while the Phillies hold fourth and fifth place with Bryce Harper and Trea Turner. All three active top five players will be in action today.

Leody Taveras of the Rangers posted the highest game score of the day, a 63. He went two for two with a walk and a home run from the ninth slot in the order. This will certainly be a game to remember for him. Note that while Taveras career averages aren’t great, he does own a very good .312 BABIP. His high K rate pulls down his numbers, but he’s moderated that in the post season where he’s hitting very well.
