Games of the Day

The Yankees and Orioles play the rubber game of their series in Baltimore as Nestor Cortes takes on Bruce Zimmermann. Both pitchers come into the game having allowed no runs in their first start. The Yankees lead the AL in runs allowed per game at 2.75, the Orioles tied for third at 3.57 RA/G. Cortes comes off a 2021 season in which he struck out 103 and walked 25 in 93 innings, good for a 2.90 ERA. Zimmermann allowed fourteen home runs in 64 1/3 innings in 2021, leading to a 5.04 ERA.

Houston send Jose Urquidy against Seattle rookie Matt Brash. Urquidy allowed one run in his first start of the season, and a 3.50 ERA in his 182 2/3 innings career. He walked just 34 batters in that time. Brash took the loss in his debut as he allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings. He did strike out six and walk one, however.

The Sunday night game features the Braves and Padres with Bryce Elder taking on Yu Darvish. Elder is also a rookie making the second start of his career. He owned a 2.75 ERA in the minors, averaging 10.3 K per 9 IP. Darvish has been wild so far this season, walking six and striking out five in 7 2/3 innings.
