Tom Tango developed a new rule of thumb for translating runs into wins. In general, 10 every ten runs you add on offense or subtract on defense leads to another win. That depends on the run environment, however, and Tango’s formula of 3.0 + 0.8*(RS+RA) + 0.4*(RS-RA), where RS and RA and runs scored and allowed per nine innings.
