Games of the Day

Oakland starts a weekend series against Seattle as Sean Manaea faces Chris Flexen. Seattle sits 3 1/2 games behind Oakland so a Mariners sweep at home would put them into second place in the AL West. Manaea has mixed results against the Mariners in his career, 7-5 but with a 3.42 ERA. He allowed just 64 hits in 81 2/3 innings. Flexen gives his defense a workout, with just 65 K and 20 BB in 99 1/3 innings. So far it works, as he owns a 9-3 record and a 3.35 ERA.

The Giants and Dodgers finish their series with Anthony DeSclafani taking on Walker Buehler. DeSclafani’s 2.78 ERA would be much lower if not for the 15 runs he allowed the Dodgers in 12 1/3 innings this season. Buehler pitched extremely well against the Giants this season, with an 0.92 ERA in three starts. He allowed just 12 hits in 19 2/3 innings.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts chided fans for booing Kenley Jansen after blowing a save Wednesday night, so we’ll see how the crowd reacts if Jansen takes the mound tonight. The Dodgers are paradoxically a great and disappointing team. Most fans would be happy with a .608 winning percentage. Los Angeles was supposed to run away with the NL, but are not even in first place in their division. For fans, this is made worse by the Giants being the team in the lead. Jansen caught their strange frustration last night.
