The early afternoon features the Mariners at the Blue Jays in Buffalo as Yusei Kikuchi takes on Hyun Jin Ryu. For the most park, Kikuchi pitches well at home or on the road, but his ERA stands about a run lower on the road this year, 3.86 versus 2.89. Opponents are just 2 for 22 against him on the road with runners in scoring position. Ryu continues to be great at limiting walks, with 19 BB in 89 2/3 innings in 2021, 200 in 897 innings for his career.
The Twins send ace Jose Berrios against the White Sox and one of their aces, Carlos Rodon. Berrios stands 7-2 on a team with a .433 winning percentage and has not lost a game since April. Rodon is nearly unhittable this season as opponents slash just .169/.248/.277 against him.
Finally, the Mets and Braves follow up Atlanta’s 20-2 victory with Jacob deGrom facing Ian Anderson. It is unlikely deGrom blows a lead with his 0.69 ERA as he celebrates his Baseball Musings Pitcher of the Month award. Anderson owns a bit of a reverse platoon split this season as right-handed batters hit .236 against him while lefties hit just .202 against the RHP.
Enjoy!
