The Brewers beat the Tigers 19-0 Wednesday afternoon, knocking out over ten times more hits than Detroit, 21-2. Seven of the nine starters for Milwaukee collected multiple hits, and 13 of the 21 hits went for extra bases.
My memory remembers some big score from the Brewers in the past, so I wanted to see if they indeed scored at least 19 runs often. The Brewers moved to Milwaukee in 1970 after spending a season as the Seattle Pilots. Since 1970, this was their seventh 19-run game, which is about middle of the back. The most belong to the Yankees with 14 such games. They are followed by the Twins with 13, the Red Sox with 13, the Indians with 12, and surprisingly the Expos/Nationals with 11. At the bottom are the Cardinals with two. The Diamondbacks also have two, but they have only been in existence since 1998. The Cardinals have no excuse.
Update: The Braves score 19 as well, and they are in the fifth inning. For the Braves, it’s only the fourth time since the start of the 1970 season that they scored at least 19 runs in a game. They lead Miami 19-8.
Update: Jazz Chisholm of the Marlins is two for two in that game with a home run and a triple. He has the tough half of the cycle.
