Two donations on Saturday pushed the Baseball Musings Pledge drive over the top!
The goal this year was $1,500, designed to offset a significant amount of cost of the Day by Day Database. Twenty two readers donated $1665, including Jack Spellman who renewed his patron status, and an anonymous $500 donation that came in Thursday. One of the final donations was for the clever amount of $162.
You can still make donations via PayPal, Square Cash, Venmo (David-Pinto-82), or by check.
Please email pinto@baseballmusings.com for my address if you would like to mail a check. Thank you for your continued support of Baseball Musings—together, we’re preserving a space where baseball analysis remains honest, independent, and there’s no limit on the number of characters in a post.
Welcome to the annual Baseball Musings Pledge Drive! Since 2002, this site has remained one of baseball’s last truly independent analytical voices, providing unique resources like the Day by Day Database that teams and fantasy players rely on. To maintain our ad-light experience while continuing to develop specialized tools you won’t find elsewhere, we need your support.
If every daily visitor contributed just $5, the pledge drive would end in a single day . For those able to give more, we offer special rewards: a $50 donation lets you dedicate a post with a hyperlink, while $500 grants you Patron status on our sidebar for two years. Every contribution, regardless of size, helps keep independent baseball analysis alive.
The goal this year is $1,500. That will offset a significant amount of cost of the Day by Day Database. So far, twenty readers donated $1498, including Jack Spellman who renewed his patron status, and an anonymous $500 donation that came in Thursday. Won’t you join them? One five dollar donation ends the drive!
Donations can be made via PayPal, Square Cash, Venmo (David-Pinto-82), or by check.

P.S. The drive is almost complete. Will you be the one to push it over the finish line with your $5 donation?

I have noticed, that for the last three months, the country with the third most visits to this site is Sweden. Has baseball suddenly become popular in Sweden? If you’re visiting the site from there, I’m interested in finding out why.

I am always thankful for the readers of Baseball Musings on this day. For twenty three seasons you supported this site and allowed me to indulge in my labor of love. May all of you enjoy a marvelous day with friends and family!
I am healing from my back injury, but the drugs are making me a bit tired, and with other things going on I have not been writing as much as I would like. I hope to return to normal soon.
I suffered an injury that makes it difficult to set in front of the computer, so I’m going to use the All-Star break to take some time off as well. With luck, I’ll be better soon, so enjoy tonight’s contest.
Baseball Musings set a record for visitors in a month with 123,562 of you clicking on the site in June. Thank you so much for the support! It seems a lot of people come for the hit streak data, but I hope you enjoy the other features as well.
The Baseball Musings Pledge Drive is over. Thank you to all who donated! The drive brought in $245, and there are usually a few late donations. While the drive is over, the donation links stay up, so feel free to donate any time.
Thanks once again to everyone who reads and enjoys this labor of love.
The Baseball Musings Pledge Drive is up and running. Can you help with a five or ten dollar donation? So far, readers donated $160 with two more people putting checks in the mail. Won’t you join them to support independent blogging?

The Baseball Musings Pledge Drive is up and running. Can you help with a five or ten dollar donation? Thanks once again to all my readers for reading over the years.
Baseball Musings came online in March, 2002, and I’d like to thank the readers once again for making this site a labor of love. Your comments, jokes, and criticism help make this a fine forum for discussing our pastime. Baseball Musings remains one of the few independent voices from the early days of baseball blogging.
Since 2005, readers supported the site with donations during the pledge drive. I hope you will consider helping out with the costs of the site.
Donations can be made via PayPal, Square Cash, or Venmo. Venmo needs to be used through the mobile app, and my name is David-Pinto-82. Unfortunately, other donations providers have gone out of business or charge too much money in fees. If you do not wish to use one of the above providers but still wish to donate, please contact me and I’ll provide an address for a check. (I recently moved, so the old address won’t work.) My email is pinto@baseballmusings.com.
The main cost of running the site is the data for the Day by Day Database. The DBD is a different research tool, given you date driven data from the start. Teams and fantasy players use it on a daily basis. It provides data for the daily Beat the Streak Picks. It provides data for the Musings Marcels and the Opposition batting version of that projection system. I have a number of readers who reported fantasy success using that data. In recent years, database expanded to include all post-season batter and pitcher game lines back to 1920. We now can see the old newspaper style of league leaders every day, and for every day for over 100 years.
Note that in 2020, Baseball Musings removed most advertising from the site. This was part of a redesign that made the posts easier to read and presented an uncluttered look to patrons. It also makes your donations more important.
Is this worth a five dollar donation? If every one who visited the site today donated that amount, the drive would be finished by this evening.
Larger donations earn you a premium. For a donation of $50, you will be able to dedicate a post. The dedication should be in good taste and may contain a hyperlink. For a contribution of $500, you can join Jack Spellman as a Patron on the side bar for two years, including a hyperlink.
Thank you for your support!
P.S. If you want to support independent blogging, and discussions that take more than 280 characters, consider a donation to Baseball Musings today!
