David Ortiz just hit an RBI single through the spot where the shortstop usually stands. He’s been going the other way a lot against the shift lately. Maybe it’s time to shift a bit less.
I’m seeing more and more batters taking the free hit on the shift. Good for them. Ortiz’s RBI ties the Yankees at one in the bottom of the first.
Update: Mike Napoli drives in Ortiz with a home run, and the Red Sox onslaught continues. They lead the Yankees 3-1. Rutherford B. Hayes would be proud.
