After Felix Hernandez got pounded this afternoon, Adam Wainwright suffers the same fate this evening. He allows nine runs, all earned, in just two innings, raising his era to 2.96. He even walked two batters (!) to go with eight hits and a home run. The Reds are in a good position to salvage a game in the series as they lead St. Louis 9-0 in the top of the fifth.
Kershaw’s Cy Young stock is definitely rising–between the unfortunate Harvey injury and Wainright’s ERA getting torched, there aren’t that many plausible alternatives to Kershaw assuming he avoids multiple bad outings over his last five starts, even if continued weak offensive support leaves his win total around 15.
