Clearing the Table

The Reds beat the Cubs 6-2 Monday night, as Brandon Phillips continued his RBI onslaught was a grand slam, a single, and an RBI groundout. Phillips now has 52 RBI in 58 games. While he’s not on the record pace of Miguel Cabrera, he’s taking advantage of the high OBPs of Shin-Soo Choo and Joey Votto to keep the Reds scoring.

A reader sent me a message that the game was quite foggy.

I find it amazing that Phillips has hit just about everywhere 1-6 over the years and can adjust to the needs of that particular spot in the order. I seem to recall he wasn’t real good in the lead off spot, but he can hit everywhere else they put him.

He’s my favorite player to watch. If the Reds keep hanging around in the Central (and I think they will) he’s got to get some MVP consideration.
