Home Run Derby

The contest takes forever, and they’re wasting time with a band. Get the first batter up at 8:02 PM EDT. It’ll be 8:15 before anyone takes a swing.

Update: Sluggers or Closers? Given how late the show is running, I might be able to switch to the season premier of The Closer at 9 PM and get back in time to see the end of the contest.

Update: Batter in the box at 8:17, Carlos Beltran leads off.

Update: Beltran making outs quickly, trying to make up for time. He’s hit three homers with his first five outs.

Update: Beltran hits seven home runs.

Update: Jose Bautista takes a good number of pitches, but his first ball hit finds the seats.

Update: Bautista hits the roof the BBTN set.

Update: He hits the roof a second time. He’s hitting a bunch with one out to go.

Update: Jose hits 11 to take the lead.

Update: Matt Cain’s baby girl looks angry. She probably wanted R.A. Dickey to start. 🙂 Carlos Gonzalez is now at the plate.

Update: ESPN doesn’t really care about the contest, as they are spending CarGo’s at bat talking to Matt Cain. Thanks for playing, Carlos! No one cares about the Rockies!

Update: Gonzalez hits four home runs, bringing up Mark Trumbo.

Update: Trumbo hits seven, putting him in the top three. He also hit the longest one I’ve seen tonight.

Update: Andrew McCutchen is up.

Update: Andrew hits four. He probably won’t make the finals. Prince Fielder is up next.

Update: Fielder set off the fountains with his third shot.

Update: Prince hits a gold ball into the fountain as well.

Update: Fielder hits five. Matt Kemp up next.

Update: Kemp makes nine outs before hitting his only home run. I had him down for zero.

Update: The KC fans are booing Cano, and cheering with every out he makes.

Update: Cano hits none. The captains both fall out in the first round.

She looks hot. I wonder if anyone is going to hit one out of the stadium tonight.

The KC fans turn a fun charity event into an opportunity for vindictiveness — nice job! Way to do your city proud!
