Pettitte Comeback?

Jack Curry reports via Twitter:

The Yankees have signed Andy Pettitte to a 1-year minor league deal worth $2.5 million. The team is thrilled to have 240-game winner back.

Wow. I guess Andy misses the competition. If nothing else, it gives New York depth if injuries mount by the middle of the season. Andy posted a bWAR of 2.8 in 2010, which was pretty much in line the majority of seasons of his career. He will play 2012 as a 40-year-old, however, so I really wonder how much is left in the tank.

Obviously, if he does not pitch well in Triple A, he never gets called up.

I wonder if Garcias hand and Pinedas low velocity helped the Yankees decide.

Anyways, nice guy to have on your depth chart when you already have 6 SP’ers and a Triple A staff full of almost ready SP prospects.

It is really hard to believe that Andy is going to the minors.Well I guess an arm does not last forever

He would only be going to the minors to work off rust. He finished 2010 real strong so I doubt he can not regain his form and pitch effectively. He will be a real asset against the Red Sox LHB dominated lineup, especially given that CC has not pitched real well against them.
