Games of the Day

Ricky Romero takes on Bartolo Colon as the Blue Jays continue their series in New York. Romero can match his 14-9 record from 2010 with a win today. Romero improved his ERA by almost a run over last season despite no improvements in his K/BB/HR rates. In fact, he’s striking out fewer and allowing more home runs. He reduced line drives allowed from 18% to 13%, and that led to a lower batting average allowed. Colon has a huge day/night split, with only 3 of his 17 home runs leaving the park in the day time.

The Giants try to gain another game back on the Diamondbacks as Ian Kennedy face Tim Lincecum. The Giants find Kennedy tough to hit, as he allowed just 14 hits in 24 innings against San Francisco. Despite pitching 24 innings in three starts and allowing just three runs, Kennedy has a 1-0 record against the division rival this season. Back on May 10th, Ian and Tim matched eight shutout innings, both allowing four hits each. The Giants won the game 1-0 in the ninth. Despite some control problems, Tim is on an ERA hot streak. He walked 33 batters in his last 67 2/3 innings, but struck out 67 and allowed just 42 hits, good for a 1.60 ERA.
