I also get the feeling the difference between speculating that Raul Ibanez used PEDs and speculation that Jose Bautista uses PEDs had a lot to do with the target of the accusation. Reporters knew Raul really well and trusted him. Since Bautista was stuck on the Pirates, a team that didn’t merit a lot of coverage, they probably didn’t know him as well, so the speculation didn’t seem so outrageous to them.
