Quiet Lee

Cliff Lee says he should have spoken up sooner about his bad back.

“Looking back in hindsight, yeah, I should have said something sooner,” Lee said Friday. “But I wanted to help the team win and I wanted to compete. The last couple of starts, I wasn’t really helping the team. It was time to try something else. I don’t want to say this is the only reason I haven’t pitched well. But it did affect my mechanics a little bit.”

It’s impressive how many times a pitcher has unusual problems that he’s hurt. I’m surprised that the Giants didn’t find something wrong with Tim Lincecum during his poor August.

With Lee’s back problems and Smoak’s .159 batting average for Seattle, it seems like the team that won this trade is the Yankees. Sometimes the best trade is the one you don’t make.
