Both Aaron Gleeman and Rob Neyer wonder why the Twins didn’t call up minor league pitchers that could have worked in the extra inning game Thursday night. I think the answer is obvious, the Twins were trying to save money. Minor leaguers get paid major league minimum for each day with the parent club. The Twins were saving about $2000 a day per player by delaying the callups.


I wonder how $2,000 a day compares to the gate revenue of a playoff series… If they miss out on the playoffs by a game or two they will be kicking themselves for being understaffed for a winnable game in September!
$2000 is peanuts to a major league franchise.
