Joey Votto keeps making his MVP case, hitting his 28th home run of the season as the Reds down the Dodgers 5-2. His three RBI gives him 72 86 on the season, a new single season high for Joey. He currently ranks second in WAR behind Ryan Zimmerman, but Ryan may not get much support with his team in last place. Votto is also dealing with Albert Pujols chasing the triple crown, and Roy Halladay putting up amazing numbers in the year of the pitcher. It should be a very interesting vote in the National League.
Update: I misread the walk column for the RBI column for Votto. 86 RBI is still a new career high.
You might want to check his RBI total. The three today bring it to 83 on the season.
The MVP things he did today-hit a solo homer, giving the Reds a 3-2 lead; then in the ninth, with the bases loaded and two outs going 0-2 (swinging strikes) against Broxton, hung in there, fouled off 4 pitches, took 3 for balls, and finally drove in two more runs, a nice cushion. It was one of the best at bats I’ve seen all season. He does this sort of thing all of the time.
If he doesn’t get consideration, heavy consideration for the MVP, I will accuse the voters of being brain dead.
@jrs: Thanks, read the wrong column. Fixed it.
