Never Cross a Man Who Buys Satellite Time by the Gigahertz

Via Hardball Talk, Bobby Valentine expresses his unhappiness with the Marlins on ESPN:

“If this is a major-league process, I hope I’m never in the process again,’ Valentine said on ESPN’s Baseball Tonight. “It’s very disturbing, confusing and it was insulting at times, but it’s over.’

The process might be over for Valentine, a regular commentator for ESPN who made his remarks Tuesday night. But the Marlins are left with an image problem.

“They didn’t do their homework. They didn’t do their due diligence on Bobby V. It looks like you got caught with your pants down a little bit,’ said former New York Mets general manager Jim Duquette, who has a baseball show on satellite radio.

I have to admit I was a little surprised when the Marlins talked about hiring Valentine. If they couldn’t get along with fairly low-key men like Joe Girardi and Fredi Gonzalez, how were they going to deal with Valentine’s huge ego? (I don’t mean that disparagingly. Bobby’s ego is part of what makes him a good manager.) I like Craig Calcaterra’s take on this:

After all of this, one wonders if the Samson-Beinfest team even wanted to fire Fredi Gonzalez in the first place.

The Mets defeated the Marlins 6-5, despite Florida collecting 17 hits and walking twice, while New York finished with ten hits and no walks. Florida went 3 for 12 and walked twice with men in scoring position, squandering opportunities to break the game wide open. The Mets went 8 for 15 in the same situation.

I cannot stand Bobby Valentine. Just glad that MLBN has Harold Reynolds instead of this clown.
