Julio Borbon plays the outfield for the Texas Rangers. He posted a short but outstanding rookie season, hitting .312 with a .376 OBP. He hit for very little power, but he doesn’t make a high number of outs. He also did an excellent job stealing bases, going 19 for 23, 83%.
Borbon rose through the minors quickly, something that would be expected of a good minor league player. His high OBP, low power stats are consistent through his minor league career. He has the makings of a good leadoff hitter.
The Rangers gave him very few at bats against left-handed pitching, making me wonder if they plan to platoon him. He only hit okay against lefties in the minor leagues.
