Ramiro Pena grounded a slow roller to Longoria, cutting in front of the shortstop. Pena is called out at first, but the replay clearly showed he was safe. Instead of the bases loaded and one out, the Yankees have men on 2nd and 3rd with two out and Jose Molina up. The Rays and Yankees are tied at three in the bottom of the ninth.
Update: Molina flies out to right to send the game to the 10th.
Update: Phil Coke comes in and gives up a leadoff home run to Carlos Pena. That give the Rays first baseman 12 home runs on the season, which leads the majors.
Interesting how the Yankees seem to be getting on the wrong side of bad calls in recent years. As a Red Sox fan having been on the other side of bad calls in the curse years and suspecting a conspiracy, I wonder if Bud is unhappy with the Yankees. Or is it the ring curse alluded to in Torres book.
Right, I’m sure it’s either a curse or a conspiracy. It couldn’t be an unlucky coincidence, I’m sure.
I’ve seen the Yankees get a couple of incorrect calls their way this year — it’s just that those calls didn’t affect the outcome of the game.
I bet you can’t find a single fan who believes that over the course of last season, his team won more games than they should have because of umpires blowing calls.
