The Yankees defeat the Red Sox 8-3 behind seven strong innings by Andy Pettitte. He allows just one run, lowering his ERA to 2.66. The Yankees, unlike last night, did not draw a walk, but they knocked out 16 hits, three doubles, a triple and two home runs. The win means they take two of three from the Red Sox and reduce the lead in the AL East to 9 1/2 games.
New York plays three games in Boston at the end of next week, then don’t see them again until the end of August. They really need to gain as much ground as they can in that series next week, because they just might run out of games late in the year if they don’t.
I’m surprised the Yanks took this series. I wonder if they can do it IN Boston. It’ll be good.
