The Phillies and Astros feature another good pitching matchup as Cristopher Sanchez takes on Hunter Brown. Sanchez is well on his way to lowering his season over season ERA for the fourth year in a row. He is down to 2.87 this year from 3.32 in 2024. He is striking out nearly two more batters per nine innings this season which helped lower the batting average against him. Brown leads the AL in ERA at 1.88, 0.04 runs ahead of Max Fried.
Janson Junk tries to take out Hayden Birdsong as the Marlins face the Giants. Junk makes his second start after five long relief appearances. He struck out 25 and walked two in 27 2/3 innings, good for a 2.60 ERA. He deemphasized his fastball this season in favor of a slider and a curve, which I guess makes him a junk baller. 🙂 Birdsong brought both his walk and HR rates down from his rookie season of 2024, helping him drop his ERA by 1.5 runs.
Enjoy!
