Andy Ibanez comes through with a bases loaded, two out, two strike two base hit to drive in three runs and break a two-two tie as the Tigers take game two 5-2 to defeat the Astros and advance to the ALDS against the Guardians. Ibanez came in as a pinch hitter after starting on Tuesday. Ibanez’s career stats don’t scream clutch hitter, but he hit fourteen points higher with runners in scoring position than his career average, and he hit .395 in that situation this season.
I like to pull for teams that have not won a World Series in a long time. This ALDS will feature two, as the Tigers last won in 1984 and the Guardians/Indians last won in 1948.
So you have to pull for the Yankees, who haven’t won since 2009. We fans are starved.
Against the Royals, yes. Against the Orioles no.
