Jon Heyman has the latest, including this juicy tidbit:
The Braves are shopping Andruw Jones around, hoping to land young pitching in return for the eight-time Gold Glove center fielder. Atlanta asked the White Sox for right-hander Brandon McCarthy but were rejected. They are still in talks with the Red Sox for a package that may include left-hander Jon Lester, who is 5-1 with a 3.49 ERA during his rookie season.
Lester’s been real lucky so far. I’d trade him for Jones in a minute, even if it’s a rental deal.
Todd Walker’s been traded for a Padres minor leaguer.
Wow…I would have taken that deal if I were the Sox. McCarthy for Jones? That would be a great deal for them.
Now if the Red Sox could just get Smoltz included in this deal somehow.
WEEI has been saying that the deal was for Hansen, Coco and Lester. Even for Andruw that is too steep for a rental player.
Andruw has one more year on his contract at $13.5 million. Don’t know if I’d trade both Hansen and Lester for him, but for one of them plus Crisp (who ZR has as bad in CF) I’d do it.
