There a number of early games today, the best pits Bryce Miller of the Mariners against Joe Ryan of the Twins. Miller tries to continue his fine rookie season that so far saw him strike out 64 and walk just 15 in 69 1/3 innings. Ryan is in a bit of a slump, with a 5.75 ERA in his last seven games. His high K rate in that time is not limiting hits.
Toronto sends Yusei Kikuchi against the Dodgers and Tony Gonsolin. A win today would give Kikuchi eight on the season, which would be a new single season high for him. His career suffered from a high home run rate, which continues this season. Gonsolin’s ERA is up over a run from his career average, as his walk and home run rates rose this season.
Finally, two good, young pitchers square off in Boston as Spencer Strider takes on Brayan Bello. Strider owns the highest K rate for any pitcher with at least 250 innings and ten starts since 1969, the year they lowered the mound. Bello improved on his rookie year by cutting down on walks and limiting hits.
Enjoy!
