The Marlins finish their series with the Braves as Pablo Lopez takes on Max Fried. Lopez pitched well this season, his only real weakness the home run ball. Most of those came on the road. Fried pitched great, and is set to cross his single season high of 165 2/3 innings, reached both in 2019 and 2021.
The Rays go for a sweep of the Yankees in Tampa Bay as Frankie Montas visits Shawn Armstrong. Montas as yet to win for the Yankees in five starts. He allowed 32 hits in 25 2/3 innings, five of those home runs. Armstrong makes his second start of the season. He seems to be more than an opener, as he did last three innings his first time out. He is a long time, one-inning reliever, so we’ll see how deep he goes today.
The streaking Mariners send George Kirby against the Guardians and Cal Quantrill. Kirby doesn’t walk many batters despite batters being able to lay off his pitches outside the zone. That may be why despite a high K rate, he also allows a high number of hits. Quantrill saw his K rate drop and his hit rate rise compared to 2021, which is likely why his ERA is up six tenths of a run.
Enjoy!
