Playoffs Today

The Worlds Series moves to Washington with the Nationals up two games to none. The Astros send Zack Greinke against Anibal Sanchez. Greinke pitched great during the regular season. His high strikeout rate and extremely low walk rate covered up the home runs he allowed. That hasn’t been the case in the post-season. Greinke allowed 21 home runs in 208 2/3 innings, not a bad rate for 2019. So far, he allowed five home runs in 14 innings in the post season. Power allowed hurt Greinke throughout his post-season career, as 30 of the 75 hits he allowed went for extra bases, and the isolated power against him stands at .190.

Sanchez allowed just one run this post-season in 12 2/3 innings, the one run coming on a solo homer. With just five hits allowed, opponents have not been able to generate an offensive sequence against him. That’s partly due to his 14 K. He now owns a 2.57 post-season ERA for his career despite eight home runs in 56 innings. Like Greinke, most of the home runs were solo shots.

Enjoy!
