The Giants send three players to the Texas Rangers to clear space for rookies and to give them room to maneuver under the salary cap:
Though the trade market is still heating up, the Giants jumped right in Sunday by shipping reliever Cory Gearrin, outfielder Austin Jackson and pitching prospect Jason Bahr to the Texas Rangers for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
The move cleared the way for San Francisco to promote center field prospect Steven Duggar and right-handed reliever Ray Black, who arrived at AT&T Park Sunday. Duggar will bat first and start in center field for the Giants’ series-finale against the Cardinals.
I heard the new while listening to another game as I drove around, and the neutral third party thought the trade for the Rangers was, “We will take money off your hands if we get Bahr.” Bahr owns excellent three-true outcomes at A-Ball, but at seasonal age 23, he is a bit old for A ball. Texas thought taking on more salary was worth it.
