The Red “Hot” Sox visit New York to take on the second place Yankees in three-game series. Boston won eight games in a row to extend their AL East lead to 4 1/2 games over New York. Eduardo Rodriguez faces Jaime Garcia in the series opener. Rodriguez pitched well at Yankee Stadium in his career, 2-1 with a 1.80 ERA. Despite few strikeouts, he allowed just 17 hits and five walks in 20 innings there. The two big trades for Garcia and Sonny Gray have yet to produce a win for the Yankees. Garcia allowed six runs in 4 2/3 inning during his first outing for New York.
Slugfest of the day goes to the game between the Twins and the Tigers. Kyle Gibson and Anibel Sanchez both own ERAs over 6.00. Gibson allows a .510 slugging percentage this season, while Sanchez comes in at .570.
The battle of Texas features Charlie Morton of the Astros and Cole Hamels of the Rangers. Morton held the Rangers to one run in six innings in his only start this against them this season, striking out eight. Hamels in undefeated at home in six starts this season, 4-0 with a 3.12 ERA. Only three of his nine home runs came in Arlington.
