The Last Days of A-Rod

People seem to be making a big deal about a potential release of Alex Rodriguez, but it doesn’t bother A-Rod:

“I’m one of the luckiest human beings on the planet,” Rodriguez said. “I respect everything Cashman is doing. I trust Hal Steinbrenner’s plan. I will forever be a Yankee fan. I hope I can contribute. … No matter what happens, I’m at peace with myself.”

When faced with not being able to play any more, Mike Schmidt retired. Of course, at the time, Schmidt wasn’t owned tens of millions of dollars. Rodriguez indicated he’d like to coach. Since the Yankees are going to pay him anyway, why not retire him as a player and make him a batting coach, or a roving minor league instructor? The Yankees just brought a number of prospects into the system, why not have Alex go to the minors and coach them? It may not be worth tens of millions of dollars, but it’s a good solution in which all sides get some of what they want.

Arod is worth over 300 million and has a RE empire that earns him 20 million a year, and his GF is a billionaire. Why would he want to coach? Also, I think he has some milestones he wants to reach, and he probably can latch on to another team if he willing to play 1B (maybe Marlins) or in the AL as a DH. This presumes he will not be blackballed like Bonds
