Games of the Day

With the rain out last night, all eyes will be on the Brewers and Cubs as Taylor Jungmann faces Jake Arrieta. Jungmann is not fooling anyone this year as opponents are hitting .318/.405/.636 against him. Fourteen of the 21 hits against him have gone for extra bases. Arrieta goes for his second no-hitter in a row and third in 12 starts. He’s a great candidate to equal Johnny Vander Meer‘s feat, as he allowed just 91 hits in his last 178 innings covering 24 starts. That works out to a .150/.199/.214 slash line. In that time he allowed 9 hits in 87 at bats with men in scoring position.

Out west, Jose Fernandez takes on Kenta Maeda as the Marlins go for a four-game sweep of the Dodgers. Fernandez ran into trouble with wildness this season, walking 11 in 22 2/3 innings after walking just 14 in 64 2/3 innings last year after his return from Tommy John surgery. His strikeouts remain high at 32, so we’ll see how he adjusts his control. Maeda is looking like of the great Asian signings, starting off his career with a 0.36 ERA in 25 1/3 innings. The right-hander fools left-handed batters well, holding them to a .190/.261/.310 slash line so far.

Enjoy!

Leadoff hit against Arrieta. It’s like the Brewers didn’t even realize this was one of their few chances to make history this season. 🙂
