Jimmy Rollins says Corey Seager will be the Dodgers starting shortstop in the playoffs:
“I’m OK with it,” Rollins said. “Obviously, no one is ever happy. I mean, you want to be out there playing, especially this time of the year. But like I said in my meetings, it isn’t about the name on the back, it’s about winning baseball. So, if that’s the lineup that is best for us to win, let’s go with that.
“Either you’re selfish or you’re a man of your word. If you say it’s about the team, then when the situation isn’t necessarily in your favor, you shouldn’t change. I’m not going to change.”
Good for Rollins. Don Mattingly says there has not been a final decision. I suspect the front office might want Seager, but Mattingly might want to start the veteran.
Seager came to the plate just 109 times, so his major league numbers should be taken with a huge grain of salt due to the small sample size. However, he did tear up A and AA ball at a young age, so there is a good reason to think he’ll hit well in the majors. Given Rollins’s decline at the plate, the Dodgers are making the right move.
As a Mets fan I want Seager starting every game. I have seen Rollins hurt the Mets too many times, Utley has too. Those 2 scare me.
