Bud Norris pitched another poor game for the Orioles Monday night, and now owns the highest ERA in the majors among pitchers with at least 55 innings. What I find interesting about the list is that the seven worst pitchers in terms of ERA all do a pretty good job of showing control. Norris is the only one with a walk rate above 3.0 per nine innings, and Norris is just barely above that. None of them strike out a lot of batters, which leads to lots of balls in play and high hit rates. The biggest problem for this group is home runs. They are getting hit hard, and that’s leading to lots of runs. Norris allowed four home runs Monday, accounting for all five runs scored off him as Texas took the contest 8-1.
