Strange Seasons Continue

The Yankees beat the Twins 7-6, a game with a number of interesting points. The biggest one belongs to Michael Pineda. He walked none and struck out nine, but allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings. His high strikeout rate, low walk rate, and high ERA have not changed.

The Yankees came back from a 4-0 deficit thanks to two-run homers by the elder hitters, Alex Rodriguez and Carlos Beltran. Rodriguez is now five home runs from 700 for his career, and Beltran, at 18 for the season, is one off his total for 2015. He’s slugging over .500 for the first time since 2011.

The Twins bullpen continued it’s poor pitching. Rickey Nolasco allowed just two runs in seven innings, but a trio of relievers allowed runs, giving the Yankees a 7-4 lead.

It also turned out that those three runs really cost the Twins, as they managed to hit back-to-back, two-out home runs off Aroldis Chapman in the ninth. Those were the first home run allowed by Chapman this season.
