"To the voters Matsuzaka is a good pitcher, but to the more informed, he is okay, but not even a top 20 American League starter. "
I don't understand this comment at all. Matsuzaka's 6th in the AL in VORP. Among all Major League pitchers with 20+ starts, his 2.93 ERA is 7th best. His K/9 is 17th best, and his HR/9 is 12th best. He still walks too many and throws too many pitches, preventing him from pitching as many innings as you'd like to see. That said, he's allowed more than three runs only five times in 27 starts this year. He's clearly a top 20 Major League starter, and equally clearly one of the top 10 in the AL. The fact that he isn't what some people want him to be shouldn't obscure the fact that what he has been is very valuable...
