More Defensive Charts

Defensive charts for each player by position in 2006 are now available for your viewing pleasure. Click here and you will be able to select a player by position. As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions. The 2004 charts were done differently and are available here. I'm going to try to make each year's charts available in the same format. Just to be clear:

Enjoy!

Update Jan 10, 2008: Added charts for 2007.

I've never understood the horizontal axis of these graphs. For example, I just looked at a chart for a second baseman, and from L to R I saw 2B, then a space, then RCF, then a space, then 1B.

Does 2B literally mean the second base bag? Or where a second baseman typically plays?

Is this just what direction a ball went with no regard to depth?

Thanks!

2B is the bag. RCF is halfway between straight center and the rightfield line. 3B is the 3b bag, 1b is the 1B bag and LCF is halfway between the 3b line and straight away center.

Giambi's 2006 Flyball chart is a bit messed up--unless, of course, he actually did catch a fly ball at roughly 179th St.

Very interesting charts, thanks for providing them.

Are these charts simply used to reinforce the idea of the plays that SHOULD be made as in the "predicted" outs? Or perhaps there is another reason im simply overlooking
