Santana Staying Put
With elbow feeling better and a heavy snow storm blowing into New York, the Mets are keeping Johan Santana in Florida.
By the way, why does he need to go to New York for an MRI? Florida must have MRI machines, and can't someone just email the doctors the results? This is the age of rapid communications. The doctor should be able to examine the pictures on his I-Phone.

I am nowhere close to a doctor, but I've seen doctors have regular citizens (not multi-millionaire salaried athletes) fly half way across the country for similar reasons.
I *think* patients are asked to do this because every MRI machine is a little bit different.
The diagnosing doc would like to start with an MRI where s/he knows the idiosyncrasies of the machine that generated it.
While we live in an age of rapid communications, the chance of a misdiagnosis due to one of these idiosyncrasies makes the cost of a flight worth it. (Plus, I expect Santana's salary pushes the equation more toward flying)
they do have an APP for that! viewing an MRI on an I-Phone.
