How to Win in Seattle

The Mariners pitching staff figured out how to win with a low scoring offense; don't allow any runs. Erik Bedard, reversed his poor fortunes of late by spinning seven shutout innings against the Red Sox, allowing just two hits. Morrow and Putz pitched the eighth and ninth without allowing any hits, and a Betancourt home run was all Seattle needed to spoil an outstanding performance by Tim Wakefield 1-0. The Seattle pitchers were a bit wild, walking six batters. Without hits, however, those runners couldn't move very far.

Wakefield was not wild at all in pitching a complete game loss. He walked none and struck out eight. The Red Sox fall 1 1/2 games behind the Rays in the AL East and have scored 14 runs in their last six games.
