Double Digit Strikeouts

Randy Johnson finally reaches the 10 strikeout mark with the Yankees. It's the 205th time Randy hit double digits. He's only ten games behind Nolan Ryan for the all-time record.

When Nolan retired after the 1993 season, I didn't think anyone would approach this mark. At the time, Johnson had 39. It's quite an accomplishment.

Update: Johnson finishes with 11 strikeouts, walking none and giving up just five hits. The only Pittsburgh run came on a homer that barely cleared the right field wall. That's two dominating performances in a row by The Big Unit.

Johnson's a beast. He's certainly forgot all about his slumping and his old age, as most "experts" blamed for his poor performance. He really broke out against the Cards the other day (last Saturday, I believe) and hasn't looked back since. That man defies age (I believe the Nolan Ryan comparison can be furthered in this regard, too.)

Yeah, Ryan retired at age 46 right? Man, As much as I think that today's pitchers are babies... Johnson could have pitched in those 3 or 4 man rotation eras.

Much as this confirmed Yankee-hater doesn't want to admit it, the team is looking pretty good right now. Another Bronxite who's returning to form is Giambi.

Jason's bat seems almost as quick as it did in the glory days, and his eye at the plate has never been better. He's hitting .310/.474/.517 for June with an 8-5 BB-K ratio. Them be the kind of numbers (except for a slight fade in SLG) that he put up before parasites and BALCO and whatever.

I just love to feel the nation ride the slumps and the streaks the Yankees have gone on this year. They have truly taken everyone on a roller coaster ride. Once they start slumpin, EVERYONE wants to write this team off, EVERYONE thinks Torre will be gone, EVERYONE thinks the team is too old. But get a win streak going now EVERYONE thinks this team is back, EVERYONE thinks the old team is now a veteran experienced team, EVERYONE thinks Torre is doing a good job. People are high on them now, I just can't wait till they lose three in a row and we all go back on writing them off and back and forth and back and forth we'll go.
