Higher Paid Shortstop
The Tampa Bay Rays sign Jason Bartlett to a $1,981,250, one-year contract. I'm curious as to how they settled on such an odd number. If Tampa didn't want to pay him $2 million, why not $1,999,999? Come on, Rays, cough up the extra $18,750!
Maybe as they negotiated, they arrived at a couple of final numbers from each side and then split the difference.
The difference to $ 2 mil is a fine for trying to score from 2B on infield roller in last WS game. Actually, with the score tied and the Rays not hitting well in the Series, it was a great try by Bartlett and the Phils catcher had to make a great scoop on Utley's lousy one bounce infield throw to just barely tag Bartlett out.
