Cash and Cashman
Scott Boras and Brian Cashman met today to discuss Broas's free agents. This was interesting:
"They will go all offense," a baseball official predicted of the Yankees if they fail to land two of the top three free agent pitchers.
That could mean bringing switch-hitting Teixeira to play first base or signing Ramirez to play the outfield or DH. Both are expected to command in excess of $20 million a year.
Maybe they should go all offense anyway. Offensive players tend to be a better bet than pitchers.

Not in the postseason. Yanks need pitching!
Agree with tc. What is Cashman building, a softball team? What happened in 2008 that convinced him he had enough pitching?
Well, to be fair, the story says "...if they fail to land two of the top three pitchers." So they're swearing off the Pavano types, which is a good idea. But still: if they go into 2009 with a better offense but a worse pitching staff (no Moose, no Pettitte) and roughly the same lousy defense, they'll be an entertaining team but not a winning one.
I think they should definitely stand pat on the pitching - use Posada behind the plate, Damon in CF everyday, maybe Matsui in RF, Swisher at 1B - TB, Boston and Toronto all agree with me
