Although the award won't officially be announced until later this afternoon, Dustin Pedroia told WEEI that he won the American League Gold Glove at second base.

How does a guy who doesn't finish at the top of his position in errors and field percentage win a gold glove?

What? He made 6 errors in 157 games; Ellis made 4 in 115. Nobody else with fewer broke 100. And his FPCT was .992. Again, Ellis was the only player with over 100 games at 2B to better Pedroia, and his was .993 with 165 fewer chances.

RZR says Pedroia was 4th best, percentage points behind Brian Roberts. Polanco probably deserved the award again given that Ellis didn't play close to a full season. Complaints about the Gold Gloves are usually warranted, but this wasn't a big mistake.
