Two More Runs
The Orioles field poorly in the bottom of the seventh and the Yankees score two more runs. Baltimore fielders let a pop up drop between them, and the shortstop Fahey made a fielding error which led to a sacrifice fly. The game goes to the eighth leading 7-3.
Update: The Yankees go out in order in the eighth. Jeter makes the last out, going 0 for 5 in the game. Mariano River comes in to finish the game in a non-save situation.
Update: With two out in the ninth, Girardi takes Derek Jeter out of the game so he can get the cheers from the fans. He goes into the dugout, hugs the players, then comes out for a curtain call.
Update: Rivera gets three ground balls to end the game. The Yankees bullpen pitches four no-hit innings, allowing just one walk while striking out three. New York closes the stadium with a win, and still have an outside chance of playing in the post season. They'll need Cleveland to sweep the Red Sox, while the Yankees sweep Toronto, then go into Boston and take three from the Red Sox to force a tie. I'm not counting on that.
Update: Jeter is addressing the crowd.
Update: Jeter made a nice speech about passing on memories from generation to generation and from this park to the new one. It ended with Jeter and the Yankees saluting the fans, and now they are doing a lap around the park waving and tipping their hats to the fans. It's a heartfelt goodbye to the fans and the stadium.
Update: Here's what Jeter said (thanks to my DVR).
Now the great thing about memories is you're able to pass it along from generation to generation. And although things are going to change next year, we're gonna move across the street, there are a few things with the New York Yankees that never change. That's pride, it's tradition, and most of all, we have the greatest fans in the world. And we are, we're relying on you to take the memories form this stadium, add 'em to the new memories that come with the new Yankee Stadium, and continue to pass them on from generation to generation.
Nicely done by the captain.

Its not over yet-weirder things have happened-not likely but possible.
Can you imagine if it gets to the last 3 games in Boston?
It was such a great night. It's a tough feeling to describe, part happy, part sad, part nostalgic.
The shot of the little kid being held by his dad with big smiles but tears in their eyes summed it up well.
I dunno dch - I'm thinking Boston can take 1 out of 4 from CLE. They've got Beckett going tonight and will have Lester on Thurs. Good for NYY getting the O's in for that last series - I guess the Washington Generals weren't avaialble. Maybe the O's can suck it up and compete at home against TB this week.
did you see Don Larsen scooping up some dirt from the mound? Classic!
