In a highly leveraged game situation in the spring, the manager is likely to bring in the marginal pitchers, so he can see how they react to stress. But if he wanted to win the spring game badly enough, he could bring in his closer instead. Not knowing managers' strategies for spring games is what makes the correllation between spring and regular season difficult.
