Halos Heaven follows Athletics Nation lead and names his Most Despicable Team. Both select David Ortiz as the DH. Halos Heaven:
Take the armor off, take the juice out and you have a gap-toothed Double-A strikeout king.
Athletics Nation:
I want to know when David Ortiz turned into Derek Jeter. And by that I mean every single time someone calls a strike on him he gives the ump a look or bitches about it. I really used to actually have a fondness for David Ortiz, but it's gone out the window the last year or so as he's gotten more and more progressively whiny about strike calls. I can barely watch a game with him now without screaming "Shut up!" at the TV.
I guess the Teddy bear image doesn't play that well outside of Boston. :-)

HH isn't exactly known for their maturity, but they are known for sour grapes.
I noticed the arguing a lot though, except that it stopped once the playoffs started. Same for Manny.

I guess I've been so annoyed by Youkilis' antics that I hadn't really noticed it too much with Papi.
If Ortiz is Jeter, than Youk is Paul O'Neill.

Manny will bark after a strikeout, but I don't think he bitches during an at-bat more than anyone else. I actually feel like he got pretty consistently screwed on early strikes this postseason, luckily, as McCarver reminded us ad nauseum, two strike hitting doesnt bother him.

I'm sorry but can this douchebag back up the 'juice' allegations about Ortiz? He strangely seems to be hitting better since '04 - if he's got something then he should back it up
Plus - is his complaining about balls and strikes really more despicable than admitting to throwing games, admitting to steroid use and making unsubstantiated claims that Joe Torre is a racist (Sheffield)? Or just being an acknowledged steroid user (Giambi?)

Disliking players primarily because they are good is part of being a fan, and those guys are entitled to their opinions.
I, for one, hate Albert Pujols and would like to allege that he is on steroids every chance I get. At the end of the day, though, I realize that it's primarily because he is so freaking good and he kills my favorite team.

Ortiz has become an annoyance with the ball/strike calls - I'm a Sox fan, and I definitely noticed it this year. He does however have a very underrated batting eye - I would say one of the best in the league. So he usually has a point.
Manny almost never says a word about ball/strike calls. Especially considering he strikes out looking seemingly more than anyone in the majors. I think in 2007 I saw him argue maybe two pitches all season - and I watched about 140 of the games.

While they're at it, why aren't the Ortiz haters bringing up the single most disgusting, annoying thing about the man: spitting on his batting gloves between every pitch? I don't want to imagine how squishy those things get after a few AB's. And how often does he switch to a new pair? Daily, weekly, annually????? I tell ya, I'd hate to be a batboy or a clubhouse attendant who had to pick up those things.
On the other hand, "Big Papi's Batting Glove" would be a great name for a blog.

Hey, jvwalt, you seen this?

My my, there sure are some angry, bitter, envious people out there in blogland.
