Blum Booms

Livan Hernandez walks his first batter of the night in the bottom of the seventh, then gives up a two-run homer to Geoff Blum. Blum only had two home runs all season was came into the game slugging .352. The Padres take a 2-1 lead and with Peavy out of the game for a pinch hitter, Jake has a chance to win his third game against the Diamondbacks.

Update: Bell and Hoffman hold the lead as Bradley adds a solo home run. The Padres are now two games out of first as they defeat the Diamondbacks 3-1.

Correction: Bell, not Brocail, pitched the eighth.

I was wondering if anyone could help me witha stat. What percentage of extra inning base ball games are won on a hom run swing of the bat?

FYI, Heath Bell worked the eighth. Brocail had been warming up and would have come in if Blum hadn't given the Padres the lead.

Blum, incidentally, is now hitting .337/.421/.452 at Petco Park this year. Go figure.
