Bad Night for Great Closers
The Padres-Mets game certainly ended in an unexpected way. Tied at five going into the ninth, Randolph brings in his closer, Billy Wagner, to keep the game that way. However, Wagner loads the bases on a single, walk and hit by pitch, setting up a one-out sacrifice fly by Kouzmanoff. He didn't blow a save, but with Trevor Hoffman coming on, he was set up for the loss.
But the Mets get to Hoffman. Millegde singles, goes to second on a sacrifice, then Anderson singles him home to tie the game and hang a blown save on Trevor. Then Reyes and Castillo each singled to plate the winning run, and Wagner goes from defeat to victory. It's not that often you see two of the best closers fail in the same game.
The Mets pick up a game on the Braves and hold their lead against Philadelphia.

That was a wild 9th. I wonder if this does not jump start the Mets. This type of rousing win was common last season, and lacking this year.
