Pedro to Pitch

Pedro Martinez is ready for his first rehab assignment:

At a news conference at the Mets' spring training complex, Martinez said he plans to throw 45 pitches Wednesday for the St. Lucie Mets and could make another start for the Class A team before determining the next step in his comeback.

"I don't know how I'm going to be," Martinez said. "I just know I feel better than the last two years or so. ... Every time I throw I bounce back really quickly. Right now, I'm 100 percent healthy."

Having Pedro healthy for the last few months/playoffs would be clutch for the Mets. Even with an already strong staff, Maine, El Duque, Perez, how can you not like Mets. The only bummer is that as Pedro gets back, Beltran gets injured. As long as both of them are healthy for the playoffs I see them winning the pennant.

Related question: are players, like Pedro, who are coming back from surgery/injury permitted to use prescribed steroids under the CBA? I know that docs sometimes prescribe them for those of us who are not professional athletes.

If so, does MLB monitor or limit it in any fashion?

I believe the answer is yes, players can use these drugs under a doctors orders.
