Where's A-Rod Going?
Where's Kernan? speculates on where Alex Rodriguez might end up if he opts out of his contract at the end of 2007:
One quick point though. For all those dreaming that A-Rod could wind up a Met and what position would David Wright move to if that became true, I got one question: Are you kidding me?
Do you really think Rodriguez would leave the Yankees to stay in New York where who knows what Yankee fans would say to him in public? Come on, get a grip.
If he leaves the Yankees he will get out of town to one of three places - Anaheim, L.A. or Wrigley, to be reunited with Sweet Lou, who loves A-Rod like a father. Anaheim, though, is the most likely landing spot.
A-Rod is at that point in his career where he needs to do what is best for A-Rod. Anaheim would be the perfect fit because Southern California is the perfect place to play baseball. Same, of course, goes for Dodgers.
One other thing to factor in is his chase for the all-time home run record, what ever it is. I'd want to go to a good park for homers. That might make Wrigley a better choice, but Arizona has the warm weather and a very good management team. And the ball flies out of there. Over the last three seasons, it's tied with Philadelphia for the highest HR Index in the National League.

I've always thought Toronto would be the ideal place for him. He'd have no pressure, we'd never think to boo him, no matter how badly he underperforms. 90% of the people who see him in public wouldn't recognize him. He could again play shortstop. If so inclined, he could stick it to the Yankees 19 times a year. Finally, the Rogers Centre is the ideal place for him to chase his home run record, as he has a 1.172 OPS and homers every 10 at-bats there.

Um, says who?
I wonder if the Angels could screw up on trying to get a right handed bat again next offseason.
I'm an A-Rod fan, but this made me laugh: "A-Rod is at that point in his career where he needs to do what is best for A-Rod."
Doing what's best for A-Rod is all A-Rod has ever done, so no worries about that.
I see A-Rod in Anaheim if he does opt out. Cubs could be a player, but seriously, they spent so much money this offseason, and then they'll have to shell out serious dough again to keep Zambrano, I can't see them having enough money left to sign ARod. Plus, Arte Moreno has been promising a marquee signing for the Angels for a while now. They missed the boat badly with Mathews JR...and when he sucks this year (believe me, he will, last season was a fluke), Moreno will be even more adamant to land a player with some serious star power. A-Rod would be a perfect fit in laidback California too.
i really disbelieve he'll go to arizona - they are not gonna spend over 20 mill a year on a 3rd baseman in his decline years.
Considering how well Seattle and Texas played the first year after A-Rod left, the Yanks will probably win the World Series 2008 if he leaves.
I can picture A-Rod in Anaheim, or LA, for that matter. Toronto? There's no way they'd pony up A-Rod money.
Dark horse candidate...Boston.
Stop laughing. Yeah, A-Rod is despised in Boston more than any athlete since Bucky Bleeping Dent, but hey, we hated David Wells once upon a time, too.
Besides, Manny's gone after '07. Mike Lowell, too. That opens up a position (3B), the salary, and the needed spot in the batting order (protection for Ortiz).
Besides, any move that would cause Steinbrenner's head to explode is always well received in Beantown.
But, seriously, I see him going to southern Cali.
I want to see him in Coors.
